E-Sea Captain

The E-Sea Captain system is, in short, a berthing tool. The system provides accurate and reliable data on speed and distance, measuring from both the bow and stern, during a berthing operation or tight manoeuvres.
The E-Sea Captain is however much more than just a berthing tool and can be used for a variety of different tasks:

• Docking /Berthing
• Optimizing safe navigation
• Reducing manoeuvring time (reducing fuel consumption)
• Providing a full back-up solution to bridge instruments
• A training tool to evaluate and educate new officers in a safe and effective way.
• Serving as documentation of the ships approach speed and actions etc. in case of a legal claim.

Captain Erik Johansen from the Ferry Bergensfjord reported a 4 minute reduction in manoeuvring time after getting the E-Sea Captain system installed. The E-Sea Captain allows for close monitoring of the distances from the fore-and-aft which made Capt. Johansen realize that he could turn the vessel at an earlier stage than before. This not only gave him more room to set and drift in case of adverse weather conditions or technical problems but also significantly reduced manoeuvring time and fuel consumption.
Another vital benefit of the E-sea Captain is that it provides an All-In-One back-up solution for the ship’s GPS, speed log, Gyro and ECDIS system. If any of these were to fail during navigation, for example the GPS, the Captain could simply turn to his E-Sea Captain and continue safe navigation until the problem was rectified.
The system has also proven very useful for training and educational purposes, where an experienced Captain can use a recording to evaluate the run, together with the new officer under relaxed and safe circumstances.
The E-Sea Captain allows monitoring of distances and speed as accurately as 1cm/sec, while providing the ship with accurate documentation of its passage in case of legal claims.
