APR06 - Press release: MARIMATECH April 2006
Popular portable pilot unit.

During 2005 MARIMATECH received orders for E-Sea Fix systems as never before. And the interest continues in 2006.

The current E-sea Fix systems are the second generation of portable pilot systems (E-Sea Fix MkII). The systems consist of a notebook PC with ECDIS and potable GPS transponders designed to help pilots navigate safely.

The requirements pilots all over the world face are extremely different. MARIMATECH has learnt that the way to cover all the pilots’ different needs is by having a broad assortment. Therefore the product line ranges from the lightweight cost effective E-sea Fix Ultra Lite to the more advanced incredibly accurate E-sea Fix CAT MAX.

  • The E-sea Fix Ultra Lite was the system of choice in the Baltic. This system consists of a portable computer, which gets its information from either pilot plug via Wi-Fi or a GPS receiver. This system is used for general navigation.

  • The E-sea Fix CAT MAX was sold to Qatar and France. This system consists of a notebook PC and two CATs. A CAT is a compact unit that contains Wi-Fi transmitter, GPS receiver and a battery. The system is based on RTK (real time kinematics) therefore the accuracy of the ship’s position is given within a few centimetres and as a result the system can be used for precise manoeuvring in harbours.

  • A large number E-sea Fix CAT and The E-sea Fix Hybrid were sold to Australia. E-Sea Fix Hybrid is based on DGPS and packed in a transport case. Hybrid is equipped with an AIS receiver and has cables for the two GPS antennas. The accuracy is not high enough for docking VLCCs but covers nearly all other operations.

  • The development of The E-sea Fix system is still ongoing because MARIMATECH aim to meet all the need the system encounters. Lately a lot of afford has gone into reducing the weight of the E-sea Fix Hybrid and is it is now approx. 7 kg including the notebook PC.
