| JUL07 - 2 New applications |
One of our customers, SHELL in Denmark, has had a MARIMATECH laser docking system installed for about two years and are happy with the system. We use this site as a reference for potential new customers.
SHELL had a request we have heard before: They wanted to measure the ships drift in the length direction. The system we have installed at SHELL, Denmark is a simple laser docking system with no mooring load monitoring system on their quick release hooks.
To solve the job we used our new laser tracker. We installed the tracker on the terminal pointing in the same direction as the ship (90 degrees to the other lasers).
We mounted some reflection tape on the gangway and the laser tracker locks on to the reflection tape and measures the distance to the gangway. The ships lateral distance is measured along with the vertical offset (caused by change in tide and drift). By this the horizontal drift is measured. In case the ship is moving outside some pre-defined limits, the system will warn the operator.
